Ayurvedic Detox Routine: Stage 2 — Releasing stored toxins
How to detox better, simply. Part Two.
A simple four-stage detox routine inspired by modern Ayurveda (Part 2)
In the first article we looked at Stage 1: preparing the body.
The goal was simple: support digestion, circulation and elimination so the body can begin working more efficiently again.
After one or two weeks of this gentle preparation, the body is ready for the next step.
Stage 2 focuses on helping the body release toxins that have been stored over time while also calming the brain and reducing cravings.
When digestion improves and circulation increases, the body naturally begins to loosen and mobilise substances that have accumulated through poor diet, stress, alcohol, pollution or simply years of modern living.
The aim is not to force detoxification, but to support the body’s natural processes.
Stage 2: Release Stored Toxins
During this stage, you continue many of the habits from Stage 1, but a few additional elements are introduced.
Two traditional herbal supplements are often added: Ashwagandha and Brahmi. These herbs are widely used in Ayurvedic medicine and are believed to help calm the nervous system and reduce cravings for sugar and processed foods.
This stage also introduces a nutrient-rich vegetable juice in the morning and a simple nourishing broth later in the day to support digestion and cellular repair.
The daily routine remains gentle and realistic.
Morning
Begin the day with warm water and lemon, followed by your digestive herbal detox tea.
Many people also add a fresh vegetable juice in the morning during this stage. This provides vitamins, minerals and plant compounds that support the body’s natural detox systems.
Gentle movement such as stretching, yoga or a short walk helps circulation and encourages the body to move waste products out of tissues.
Dry brushing and showering can remain part of your routine.
During the day
Continue eating simple whole foods.
Kitcheri remains an excellent detox meal because it is nourishing and easy to digest.
Drink plenty of water and herbal tea during the day. Many people also include a simple mineral-rich broth, which supports the gut while the body continues its cleansing process.
Evening
Keep evenings calm and simple.
If you have been using Triphala, you can continue taking it before bed to support digestion overnight.
Good sleep is also essential during this stage. The body performs many of its natural repair and detox processes while we sleep.
Stage 2 usually lasts one to two weeks. The goal is simply to allow the body to gently release substances that have accumulated over time.
In the next article we will look at Stage 3: helping the body burn and eliminate these toxins more efficiently.
Small choices. Better days. Simply better living.
